How is Super Visa different from a visitor visa?

The Super Visa, similar to the visitor visa, allows parents and grandparents of permanent residents and Canadian citizens to stay in the country for two without needing renewal. Still, with the new reform, they can stay for up to five years each visit. The current holders of Super Visa can stay in the country for a whole seven years. On the other hand, a multiple visitor visa is valid for ten years. However, the visitor can stay for up to six months; after that, they have to apply for renewal. Having said that, parents and grandparents must meet certain conditions mentioned below to be eligible for Super Visa insurance:

  • A letter from the children or grandchildren residing in Canada states that they will financially support their parents or grandparents during their stay. They will ensure they meet the minimum income requirement.
  • A letter of invitation from the children or grandchildren
  • Proof of medical insurance purchased from a Canadian insurance company with minimum policy coverage of $100,000
  • Completed a medical examination from the immigration authorities
  • If issued outside, they must apply for a visa

How will the new Super Visa changes benefit Indians?

The most significant source of permanent residents in Canada or Canadian citizens has parents or grandparents who predominantly hail from India. So, the new Super Visa reforms will greatly benefit them. In recent years, the country has seen a significant influx of Indians settling down, which has seen parents and grandparents often coming to visit them. The new changes to Super Visa will help Indian citizens reunite with their loved ones for long periods.
